1.1 Background of the Study
Documentary films have proven to be effective tools for education and advocacy, often addressing complex social and economic issues in a manner that is both engaging and informative. In the context of sustainable agriculture, documentaries serve to highlight innovative farming techniques, promote environmental conservation, and showcase success stories that inspire local communities (Abubakar & Musa, 2023). In Dange Shuni Local Government Area, Sokoto State, where agriculture is the primary livelihood, leveraging documentaries to disseminate knowledge on sustainable practices could bridge gaps in agricultural education and encourage eco-friendly farming practices. This aligns with global efforts to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) related to zero hunger and responsible consumption (Yusuf, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The agricultural sector in Dange Shuni faces numerous challenges, including soil degradation, poor irrigation systems, and the adverse effects of climate change. While sustainable agricultural practices offer solutions, many farmers lack awareness or access to practical knowledge. Documentary films, with their visual and narrative appeal, have the potential to address this gap by providing relatable and actionable insights. However, their role in promoting sustainable agriculture in Dange Shuni has not been adequately studied, leaving a critical gap in understanding their impact and effectiveness (Garba & Ibrahim, 2024).
